Job description

This is a great opportunity for a high calibre and experienced professional who seeks a position of challenge in a fast pace and dynamic environment. The Senior Legal Advisor/DPO position is based in Nicosia and will be reporting to the Head of Legal.

 

Responsibilities

  • Providing day to day legal support to the Company, including drafting and reviewing various types of legal documents and agreements, mainly commercial (e.g., Marketing/IO/T&C/License Agreements), and corporate ones (e.g., Share Purchasing Agreements/NDA/Service Agreements).

  • Providing internal legal advice and opinions.

  • Performing research on legal cases.

  • Cooperating with independent external law offices.

  • Supporting the continuous improvement of standard form agreements and legal processes

  • Generating reports, coordinating responses, and compiling information/documentation requested by various departments and external professionals (i.e. auditors, banks, external counsels, etc.). 

  • Acting as the Data Protection Officer of the Company.

  • Enhancing company and employee awareness on data protection matters (incl. delivery of trainings), and acting as the point of contact for any related matters. 

  • Monitoring and overseeing compliance with all legislation in relation to data protection.

  • Handling issues related to personal data protection (including drafting of documents and ensuring continuous compliance with the GDPR).

  • Providing advice where a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) has been carried out and monitoring its performance.

  • Drafting new and review/amending existing internal data protection policies, guidelines, and procedures, in consultation with the relevant departments.

  • Maintaining records of all data processing activities of the Company.

  • Keeping up to date with internal IT systems and processes and in turn collaborating with the relevant IT teams to handle relevant data and security matters.

  • Cooperating with Data Protection Authorities and acting as a contact person on issues relating to processing and data protection law and framework.

  • Providing recommendations for the implementation of relevant technical and organizational measures. 

Job requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law preferably from a common law jurisdiction.

  • Master of Laws or Legal Practice Course (LPC) will be considered an advantage.

  • Admission to the Cyprus Bar Association.

  • At least 4 years of post-qualification experience as a commercial lawyer at a law firm and/or as an in-house legal advisor.

  • At least 2 years of experience in data protection compliance in the banking or financial services sector.

  • Sound knowledge of laws, regulations and directives (Local and EU) relevant to data protection.

  • Previous experience with regulated Firm will be considered an advantage.

  • Previous experience in the FX/CFDs industry will be considered an advantage. 

  • Fluency in reading, writing and speaking in English and good drafting ability.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills. 

  • Resourceful with excellent analytical and problem-solving and analytical skills. 

  • Strong ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.

  • Self- motivated, ‘gets things done’, ambitious.

  • Dynamic, flexible with strong attention to detail.
